Here is a general overview of the upcoming timeline for the application process.
These dates are for the Governor's School for Humanities and Visual & Performing Arts program, hosted by Christopher Newport University in 2009. Other Governor's Schools have their own dates (though the application process timeline is similar).

Information sent by the Virginia Department of Education (DOE) to Gifted Education Coordinators regarding status of all nominated students from their division.
April 15, 2009
Letters sent by the DOE to nominees regarding their status in the program. Information about your status is NOT available before this date, nor will it be given over the phone by the Governor's School office nor the DOE. Please be patient and wait for the letter. (Gifted Education Coordinators receive notification before the student letters are mailed, and may choose to disseminate the information earlier than April 15.)

Governor's School office at Christopher Newport University to begin mailing packets to students who have notified the DOE of their plans to attend the program.
May 4, 2009
Deadline for the DOE to receive the form from students accepting or declining their invitation to the program. (Note: this office does not receive or process those forms so we do not have information on whether or not your form has been received.) Please send the form as soon as possible, and please send the form even if you are declining as it allows the DOE to contact an alternate sooner rather than later.

Online Course Selection goes live.

Deadline for students/parents to mail requested forms and items from May 1 mailing, including course preferences.
June 5, 2009
Target for Governor's School office to mail roommate and course assignments to all students.
June 15, 2009
Deadline for students/parents to mail any missing or incomplete items from the May mailing.
July 5, 2009
Students arrive on campus by 1 PM and Governor's School begins!
July 17, 2009
Teacher Recognition Day
July 19, 2009
Family Day - parents or other authorized persons may visit with their student.
August 1, 2009
Governor's School ends and students depart campus NO LATER THAN 1 PM*.
*The closing ceremony begins at 8:30 AM and typically lasts around 2 hrs. Parents, family, and friends should plan to arrive at the conclusion of the ceremony to assist students in moving out. Due to space considerations, the closing ceremony is limited to ONLY the students, faculty, and staff of the Governor's School 2009.
