Winter weather is always a posbility with adjudication. Please remember that adjudication is not automatically cancelled even if your school system has cancelled weekend activities due to inclement weather. Only under extreme weather conditions at the location of adjudication will we consider completely cancelling the adjudication site. Usually, we will hold adjudication for those able to come and reschedule those unable to attend to an alternate date and location.

 

In holding adjudication, the Governor's School does not advise anyone to travel who feels that they cannot do so safely. Parents, teachers, and students should exercise their best personal judgment with regard to road conditions and other safety concerns. If conditions force you to be late to your appointment, please continue on to the adjudication site as we will be able to work you in. If possible, please leave a message with your expected arrival time and/or a wireless phone number.

 

If hazardous travel conditions in your area keep you from your appointment, please call and leave us a message so we know not to expect you.

 

The adjudication information line (757-594-0769) will be updated the evening before with any special instructions. If weather is an issue, please be sure to call for a recorded message before heading out.

Please read carefully the information for your art form. Students may only adjudicate in one of the five areas: dance, theatre, visual art, or music (instrumental or vocal). Instrumentalists may only adjudicate on one instrument (except percussion).

This page includes some important do's and don'ts for students preparing for their audition and will hopefully prove helpful for prospective students as well as school personnel. You may also wish to check out the Message Board.

We have just created a facebook page for the program and are experimenting with using it as a message board. You may enter as a quest and view discussion topics, wall posts, and notes. If you wish to post, you will need to log into your facebook account or create an account with facebook.

For each art discipline, you will find information regarding the number of students who adjudicated, the target number we hope to invite each year, as well as the number of students who completed the program. It is further broken down into instruments and voice parts. The information is given so that one can ascertain how "competitive" the selection process is per art discipline as well as perhaps make decisions as to what particular voice part or instrument to audition in given the numbers who "typically" try out.

If you find that you need to make a change or a withdrawal from the process, you may submit such information via this online form. In general, requests for a change in appointment time will not be honored. Students or school personnel are invited to use this form.
