Rooming Assignments

Room and hall assignments are made very carefully to ensure that students meet other students with a range of interests and from a variety of locations throughout the Commonwealth. Students will room with another student from their program, and will suite with two other students (i.e. share a bathroom between two rooms). Students receive the name, address, and email of their assigned roommate in June. Male and female students are housed in separate living spaces. Resident Advisors live with the students on the halls and are available at all times.

Residence Hall Rooms

The Governor's School program will be housed in the York River Residence Halls. York River East and York River West opened in August 2002 and are designed to accomodate students in four person suites on four wings of two buildings.

Residents Share:

  • Computer Lab in York River East
  • Laundry rooms on the 1st and 3rd floor of each building wing
  • Fire place*, meeting areas and television room in each main lobby
  • Study rooms on each floor

* Not as useful in July, perhaps, but still a nice homey touch!

room layoutEach room is air conditioned and includes:

  • 2 desks and 2 two position desk chairs
  • 2 single beds with 36"x80" mattress
  • 2 wardrobes & appropriate dressers
  • In room sink
  • Microwave and refrigerator
  • Wall to wall carpeting
  • Peep holes and electronic card access

Students are responsible for the care and preservation of their rooms while at Governor's School. Any damage to rooms or other University property will be repaired at the student's expense.

We hope to have pictures of room interiors available. In the meantime, some other lovely pictures:

Recreational Facilities

Arrangements are still in process regarding recreational facilities. The facilities will support a planned program of recreation for Governor's School participants. We hope to have access on a pre-arranged schedule to such things as basketball courts and exercise rooms. There are ample green spaces for informal recreation such as ultimate frisbee.

Library

Students are welcome to use all library services during their stay at CNU. Materials can be checked out for a length of time yet to be determined. The University's catalog is available online. Hours for the University's libraries during the Governor's School session are posted in the Student Handbook and are subject to change.

Computers & Internet Access

The logistics are still being worked out, but students will have access to computer labs across the campus for classwork as well as personal access to things such as email. The Student Handbook will have guidelines for responsible use of these shared resources.
