Explorations

The structure of Explorations is being reviewed for 2009. The intent is the same, but the implementation may differ. The following describes the approach for 2008.

***

Explorations is a series of workshops, master classes, seminars, and recreations in which Governor's School students participate. The program is based on the knowledge that Humanities students and Visual & Performing artists have divergent interests that need to be developed and cultivated. Accordingly, Explorations workshops and recreations bring out the unusual in many students, while master classes and seminars, organized through the morning classes, reinforce lessons learned in the classroom and practice sessions.

Explorations are offered late weekday afternoons. During the first week of the program, students participate in recreations, attend a leadership seminar, or participate in their scheduled libary orientation. In weeks two and three, students have the opportunity to sign up for three workshops or recreations per week. Registration takes place at the end of week one and week two. During the fourth week, students are invited to offer workshops for fellow students, often collaborating with faculty or staff members.

Exploration workshops and recreations for the upcoming summer are developed in the Spring. Descriptions and registration materials for the current program will be given to students upon their arrival. A list of workshop and recreation descriptions from a past year is available so you may gain a sense of the type of offerings.
