Course Descriptions
Dancer as Technician, Inventor, Artist
Taught by Jolie Long & Mary Ann Laverty
In this course, we will focus primarily on the development of the dancer. In ballet and modern technique classes, we will place emphasis on developing the necessary skills a dancer requires in order to receive the most benefit from the studio experience. Participants will learn to integrate artistry with technique, musicality, and kinesthetic and spatial awareness in order to reveal the complete dancer. Discussion, analysis and evaluative critiques will be utilized to consider the choices made in movement invention and composition. We will examine the criteria that affect the realization of choreographic intent and explore compositional, process-oriented projects. Literature, film, poetic and visual arts will be utilized as inspirational spring boards to produce individual and group pieces.
